Every other Saturday, the Gibsons Curling Club curling rink (941 Gibsons Way) hosts what amounts to an indoor garage sale featuring over 50 vendors from the Sunshine Coast. For $20, vendors rent a table and sell their used wares or homemade creations to the sifting community ( who pays a $1 entry fee).
Think of it as one-stop but multiple yard sale shopping with it’s own snack bar featuring some of the best burgers on the Coast! Plus, it’s a bit more organized than the yard sale where someone throws open their garage door and tosses tidbits on the lawn. Since they paid some green for a table, they are looking to make some.
A hidden benefit of these flea markets is not only sifting for “the find” but also it gives you a chance to interact with fellow Sunshine Coast residents. It creates a forum to exchange pleasantries, talk about unique items and possibly help someone clear out a bit of their clutter while adding new treasures to your collection.
Perhaps that is the true spirit of flea markets — mixing and mingling with members of our community. Its less about buying items, but more about investing in neighborly relationships.
Sounds like a good investment to me.
